The alpha selects Just Another Witchery Remake, not the original 1.7.10 Witchery. Use its own Modonomicon guide and JEI recipes. This page follows the author's published 0.5.12.1 book as a reference; the alpha mod list does not identify the installed jar version. Author release.
A practical beginning
Open the mod's guidebook and begin with its General category. Build the preparation stations before attempting an advanced rite. Collect plant materials, reserve room around your altar and keep separate storage for essences and brewing ingredients.
| Station / system | Purpose | Starting check |
|---|---|---|
| Oven | Processes natural ingredients into essences | Supply Clay Jars to capture fumes |
| Altar | Supplies power to nearby magical systems | Surround it with appropriate natural variety |
| Cauldron | Brewing and magical crafting | Fill with water and ignite it as the guide instructs |
| Distillery | Separates mixtures into components | Follow the current recipe rather than assuming old Witchery recipes |
| Ritual chalk | Establishes ritual layouts | Use the chalk and pattern named by the rite |
These summaries follow separate entries in the author's reference book. Exact fuel, range, capacity, recipe order and power requirements should come from the installed guide.
Altar power
The altar is a resource source, not a universal recipe shortcut. The reference book associates nearby nature, including trees and flowers, with increased altar power. Place your magical workspace within the required range, then compare available power with the operation's demand.
If an operation fails, check both the altar's power and the rest of its conditions. Adding more power does not replace a missing ingredient, weather requirement or ritual participant.
Brewing
Use the Brewing book category for effect ingredients and preparation. Prepare a single recipe with a clear goal, record its ingredient order and test the result. A nearby altar may be necessary for stronger cauldron work. The reference Cauldron entry describes Wood Ash as a way to clear it before preparing another brew.
The topic index contains the 34 Brewing topics in the reference release. It links your question to the right book section without substituting guessed quantities or legacy potion recipes.
Rituals & the brazier
The reference book contains separate Ritual and Brazier categories. Before beginning a rite, check its chalk layout, offerings, altar demand, time/weather and participant requirements. Do not assume those conditions are optional because the ingredients look correct.
The author's public data-format documentation describes ordered ritual requirements and optional conditions such as altar power and coven count. That format describes what a recipe can require; each actual rite supplies its own values. Author ritual-format reference.
Covens, bindings and poppets
A Coven Contract organises participating players and witches in the reference book; recruitment can require fulfilling a witch's request. Keep track of the contract because destroying it disbands its coven in that release.
Poppets use Taglocks to bind to a player or creature. Read whether the particular poppet must be carried or can be placed in the world. Binding, placement and target identity all matter; a generic “poppet buff” description is insufficient.

Version boundaries
The author's 0.5 update moved soul magic and lichdom into Forbidden Magic. That addon does not appear in the supplied alpha list, so this wiki does not present lichdom as an installed alpha path. Older Witchery guides and newer addon demonstrations may describe content outside this pack. Author project and update notes.
Some transformation features depend on server configuration. For example, the reference book makes spreading lycanthropy to other players conditional on the server permitting it. Inspect that setting before promising a shared progression route.
Troubleshooting
Check the recipe's installed version, ingredient order, heat/water state, altar range and power, target binding and environmental conditions. For an advanced path, check its book prerequisites rather than skipping directly to a final ritual.
