FIND A SCROLL · BUILD A BOOK · CHOOSE YOUR SCHOOL
Iron's Spells provides prepared spells, mana, casting equipment and school specialisation. Start with a useful scroll, equip a book and learn its range and casting time. Search the spell catalogue for the documented base and addon definitions.
Scroll to spellbook
A scroll can cast a spell consumably or be inscribed into a spellbook at the Inscription Table. The Scroll Forge uses paper, ink and a school focus to make scrolls; the Arcane Anvil supports spell and equipment upgrades, including eligible weapon imbuing. Check JEI and the item tooltip for the exact installed recipe and restrictions. Author overview.
Choose a book with appropriate spell capacity, then equip it as instructed by its tooltip. Check Controls for selecting and casting spells. Try your spell away from a settlement before relying on it in combat.
Schools & identities
This table follows the author's school reference for the documented 1.21-era system. Newer wiki material can differ from the alpha's release.
| School | Identity | School focus in the reference |
|---|---|---|
| Fire | Fire-based attacks | Blaze Rod |
| Ice | Ice and freezing effects | Frozen Bone |
| Lightning | Electrical attacks | Bottle of Lightning |
| Holy | Healing and holy magic | Divine Pearl |
| Ender | Teleportation and spatial magic | Ender Pearl |
| Blood | Blood-themed offence and sustain | Blood Vial |
| Evocation | Conjured attacks and summons | Emerald |
| Nature | Nature and poison magic | Poisonous Potato |
| Eldritch | Restricted eldritch knowledge | Echo Shard |
Eldritch spells require learning the relevant manuscript before use. Addons can introduce other schools; the catalogue keeps their school names separate. Author school reference.
Build a useful loadout
Reserve a slot for an attack you can reliably aim, then add a defensive or movement tool. A continuous cast keeps you committed longer than an instant cast. Test range, line of sight, recovery and mana consumption against ordinary enemies first.
Firebolt, Heal, Teleport, Summon Vex and Black Hole illustrate different roles in the upstream spell definitions; inspect the installed spell before choosing a level or assuming access. Search their names in the catalogue. The catalogue intentionally avoids treating upstream damage and mana numbers as pack balance.
Mana capacity, regeneration, spell power and school power are different statistics. The skilltree guide shows exactly which attributes each class path modifies. It does not create a separate Iron school tree.
Installed spell-content addons
| Alpha project | What to explore | Documentation coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Cataclysm: Spellbooks | Cataclysm-themed spells and additional magic schools | The catalogue indexes 57 definitions from the author's published 1.21.1 reference release |
| Spellbooks of Twilight | Twilight-themed spells, gear and spellbooks | 22 source definitions are indexed; a source definition is not proof of alpha availability |
| Echoing Magic | Echo/cosmic spells and equipment | All seven referenced spells below are indexed |
| GTBC's Geomancy Plus | Geomancy and associated spell content | See author documentation; version-specific completeness is not established |
| Alex's Caves: Spellbooks | Cave-themed spellcasting equipment and summon content | The author describes two summon spells; a verified full name registry is not included |
The Cataclysm reference release is 1.1.14-1.21. It is a research source, not a claim about the alpha's installed jar. Each catalogue entry links its author source.
Echoing Magic
The referenced spells are Echo Star, Echo Blast, Echoing Explosion, Echoing Slam, Collapse, Summon Brave and Conjure Grimoray. The author documents Geomancy Plus integration for Collapse and Summon Brave; their school can change when that integration is present. Both projects appear in the alpha selection. Inspect the installed tooltip to confirm the active school. Author project.
Integration & equipment projects
Ars 'n Spells offers configurable connections between the two magic systems. Its documented modes include Iron-primary, Ars-primary, hybrid and separate mana behaviour. Which mode the alpha uses has not been checked from configuration; do not assume an Ars mana bonus always modifies Iron mana. Author integration guide.
Create: Wizardry connects the factory to Iron's materials and processing. Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry adds its own equipment progression. Apotheosis x Iron's Spellbooks Compat, Iron's Spells x Aeronautics Compat and the Epic Fight integrations are also selected. Use the alpha list for their exact project links, and the recipe workshop for authored T&K recipes.
KubeJS Iron's Spells, GTBC's Spell Lib, Ace Spell Utils and Iron's Lib are integration or support projects, rather than promises of additional player spell schools.
When a spell does not work
Check the book slot, mana, cooldown, learned manuscript requirements and target conditions. Confirm that the spell exists in your installed release. If an addon school differs from this reference, trust its current tooltip and configuration. Author progression guide.
